Boden Hockey push welcomed by Luleå

Boden Hockey is intensifying its efforts to reach HockeyAllsvenskan. Luleå Hockey is monitoring the campaign closely and sees potential benefits for regional development.

Boden Hockey fell in the playoffs last season against Lindlöven. Since then the Hockeyettan club has stepped up its ambitions with several high-profile signings during spring and summer.

Among the new arrivals are Niclas Burström and August Tornberg, both players with extensive SHL experience. Luleå vice sport chief Ulf Engman described the moves as surprising and positive.

Engman told NSD that a successful promotion would be valuable for Norrbotten hockey. He noted that Luleå has long lacked a natural intermediate level for developing players between Hockeyettan and the SHL.

Luleå has previously loaned players to Allsvenskan clubs elsewhere in Sweden. An Allsvenskan team nearby would offer a more convenient option, Engman said.

Niclas Burström will not return to the ice immediately after signing with Boden Hockey. The 35-year-old former SHL defenseman is expected back in December following a planned break to rebuild fitness.

Borlänge is leading the race to sign forward Martin Karlsson following his departure from Leksand. The 35-year-old spent last season in France after Leksand was relegated from the SHL.
