The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) has opened an investigation into an incident at São Paulo's Congonhas Airport where two planes came within 22 meters of each other. Cenipa professionals were called in to examine the event involving aircraft from Azul and Gol. The incident took place on Thursday (30).
The FAB launched an inquiry on Thursday (30) into the episode at São Paulo's Congonhas Airport, where an Embraer 195-E2 from Azul Linhas Aéreas and a Boeing 737-800 from Gol Linhas Aéreas came within 22 meters.
FlightRadar24 data shows the close approach happened late Thursday morning. The Gol jet went around, and the Azul aircraft began its takeoff roll. The air traffic controller instructed the Azul takeoff to be aborted and the Gol plane to go around.
Gol's pilots complied and landed safely, but there was no response from Azul's pilots, who continued to Confins (MG). Cenipa (Centro de Investigação e Prevenção de Acidentes Aeronáuticos) investigators were activated for the "Initial Action on the occurrence".
"During the initial action, qualified and accredited professionals apply specific techniques for data collection and confirmation, preservation of elements, initial verification of damage caused to or by the aircraft, as well as gathering other necessary information for the investigation," the FAB stated.
