CachyOS has replaced Octopi with Shelly, a new Rust-based graphical package manager, as its default tool for handling software installations across multiple sources.
The distribution, known for performance optimizations, now offers users a unified interface for managing packages from its own repositories, the Arch User Repository, AppImage files and Flathub.
Shelly displays recent activity and a dashboard showing installed packages from AUR and Flatpak along with overall update status. A top search bar queries all supported sources simultaneously and ranks results by preference, starting with official repositories.
Settings allow toggles for AUR, Flatpak and AppImage support as well as advanced options such as disabling confirmation prompts and limiting parallel downloads. The application also includes a purify feature to remove corrupt packages.
Testing showed reliable operation for repository, AUR and Flathub packages while AppImage handling produced mixed results with some files integrating into the system menu and others not.
