Côte d'Ivoire to open embassy in Nairobi after Ouattara-Ruto talks

President Alassane Ouattara of Côte d'Ivoire announced plans to open an embassy in Nairobi following talks with Kenyan President William Ruto on May 10.

The decision came during discussions ahead of the Africa Forward Summit. Ouattara stated that the two leaders agreed to strengthen diplomatic ties. “We agreed to strengthen our diplomatic presence by opening an Embassy of Côte d'Ivoire in Kenya,” he said.

Ruto announced that Kenya would open its own embassy in Côte d'Ivoire. He described it as the first Kenyan ambassador to the country and a step to expand presence in West Africa.

The presidents also discussed trade, investment and infrastructure projects across Africa. Ruto sought Ouattara's support for Supreme Court Judge Njoki Ndung'u, who is a candidate for judge at the International Criminal Court.
