South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has sought advice from Kenyan President William Ruto on addressing migration challenges. The leaders met in Tshwane on Thursday as part of a three-day state visit that produced six bilateral agreements.
Ramaphosa spoke at the Union Buildings after delegations from both countries held talks. He said the two presidents shared ideas on resolving migration issues and confirmed that envoys would be sent across the continent and beyond. The visit also covered trade growth, with bilateral trade rising from US $590 million in 2024 to $650 million in 2025. Six instruments were signed on shipping, gender equality, vocational education, arts and sports. Both nations reaffirmed efforts to support peace in Sudan, South Sudan and eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. They also described steps to contain the Ebola outbreak, including South Africa’s $5 million contribution to the African Union CDC. Ruto is scheduled to represent Africa at the G7 summit in France in ten days.
