AUGUSTA, Ga. — Asterisk Talley entered the final round of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur as the leader after two days but faltered with a bogey on the 11th and a quadruple bogey on the 12th, where she hit two shots into the water. She signed for a 3-over 75 and tied for fourth place. DeChambeau, who has known Talley for years and watched her practice, attended to support her regardless of the outcome. He met with her afterward on Saturday afternoon. DeChambeau shared his message during comments on Tuesday, two days before his Masters start. “This is not going to define you. If anything, this is going to almost give you an opportunity to show who you truly are,” he told reporters. He drew from his own experience at the 2025 Masters, where he led after two holes into the final round but played four-over thereafter to tie for fifth. “It’s more important to show who you truly are in the losses than the wins,” DeChambeau said, urging her to sign autographs and inspire fans waiting for her. Talley recounted in a post-round interview that DeChambeau advised her to keep her head high. “He said he’s been in my position before, and he knows how it feels, especially here,” she said. “He said you’re a great player. It doesn’t really matter.” DeChambeau stressed there is more to golf than winning and predicted an “unbelievable career” ahead for the amateur star.
