Digvijaya Singh praises RSS organizational strength

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh sparked controversy with a social media post praising the organizational strength of the BJP-RSS. He stated that while he is a bitter critic of the RSS ideology, their organization stands much better than the Congress. The post came just ahead of the Congress Working Committee meeting.

Just ahead of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Saturday, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh sparked a row with a social media post praising the organizational strength of the BJP-RSS and highlighting Narendra Modi's rise from an ordinary party worker to Prime Minister. In an interview with The Indian Express, Singh clarified that the post was not intended as a message to the Congress leadership. He said, “My post was not telling the Congress leadership anything... When there is a Congress Working Committee meeting coming in the next one hour, why should I do it?”

Singh emphasized that he remains one of the bitterest critics of the RSS ideology and Modi's policies, but acknowledged that the RSS organization stands much better than the Congress. He called for decentralization within the party, noting that Rahul Gandhi has initiated the 'sangathan srijan' programme, empowering districts and extending it to the booth level. “I have always been for decentralisation,” he stated.

This controversial stance is not new for the 78-year-old Rajya Sabha MP and former two-term Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister. In the past, he has stirred controversies by questioning the 2016 surgical strikes, the 2019 Pulwama attack, and the 2008 Batla House encounter, often putting the Congress on the defensive. The party has frequently distanced itself from his remarks. The episode has reignited debates on internal reforms within the Congress.

The Indian National Congress's ongoing decline traces back to the 1969 party split and subsequent centralization of power, according to political analyst Sanjaya Baru. This centralization, centered on the Nehru-Gandhi family, prevented organizational revival despite several opportunities. Meanwhile, the BJP risks a similar fate under Narendra Modi's leadership style.

In Karnataka, opposition parties BJP and JD(S) have accused the state Congress government of spreading misinformation about the Union government's VB-G RAM G scheme. They are welcoming Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's decision to convene a special legislative session to discuss the issue. The opposition has challenged Congress to an open debate, describing the scheme as vital for rural employment.

Following AIMIM's successes in Bihar and Maharashtra, several Muslim leaders in the Congress have voiced unease over the party's leadership maintaining silence on issues affecting the Muslim community. They accuse Rahul Gandhi of avoiding the word 'Muslim' in his speeches. This has sparked fears that the party is ceding space to rivals like AIMIM.

Chhattisgarh's Opposition Congress staged a gherao of the state assembly on Tuesday, protesting changes to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The party accused the BJP-led central government of diluting the scheme by replacing it with the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin), or VB G-RAM-G—passed by Parliament in December 2025 amid nationwide opposition uproar.
