Dortmund analyses Sancho return as Ricken quashes Woltemade rumours

Borussia Dortmund managing director Lars Ricken said the club is analysing a potential return for Jadon Sancho. He dismissed rumours of a loan move for Newcastle forward Nick Woltemade. Ricken expressed hope that striker Serhou Guirassy will stay with the club.

Borussia Dortmund are considering bringing back Jadon Sancho for a third spell at Signal Iduna Park. Managing director Lars Ricken told Sport Bild that the club is assessing various players, including the 26-year-old winger, to see if they can improve the team immediately without an unrealistic transfer fee. Sancho's contract with Manchester United expires at the end of the season, and United are not expected to extend it by an option year. He has struggled at United with 12 goals in 83 appearances and spent recent seasons on loan, including a productive stint at Dortmund in 2023-24 where he scored three goals and provided two assists in 21 games, followed by spells at Chelsea and Aston Villa this season, netting one goal and three assists in 31 outings for Villa. Sancho left Dortmund for United in 2021 in a deal worth €85 million (£73 million). Ricken also quashed speculation linking Dortmund to a loan for Newcastle's Nick Woltemade, calling a Bild report the first he had heard of it and stating there is no truth to it. The Germany international joined Newcastle from Stuttgart in August for up to £69.3 million, scoring six goals in his first 11 games but none in the Premier League since a December double against Chelsea. He has shifted to midfield roles recently. Ricken affirmed the club's desire for Guirassy to remain, noting the striker feels comfortable and there is no intention to let him go amid defensive concerns with Niklas Süle departing and Emre Can sidelined. Woltemade responded to critics in Süddeutsche Zeitung, defending his form dip as a result of his new role farther from goal and expressing confidence in his adaptation.
