Education Secretary announces new university council appointments

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has announced appointments and reappointments to the leadership of eight public universities. The changes were gazetted on June 26 and take effect from that date.

The affected universities include Maasai Mara University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, South Eastern Kenya University, Pwani University, Kisii University, Turkana University, and Chuka University.

Professor Geoffrey Ole Maloiy was appointed chairperson of the Maasai Mara University Council for a three-year term. Millicent Leila Lenguris, Susan Chebet, Elizabeth Ayoo, Dickson Malanga Shikanga, and Agnes Busienei were appointed as council members at the same university.

At Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Joel Yego and Velma Mudanyi Mudasa were reappointed as council members. Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology retained David Oyugi, Joan Odawa, Ambassador Ambeyi Ligavo, Isaac Kiprop Chebon, and Willis Gesami Omwoyo. South Eastern Kenya University retained Esther Wanjiru.

Professor Mohamed Salim Badamana was reappointed chairperson of Pwani University Council, with Ambassador Benjamin Mweri, Sang David, Fatma Mohammed, and Japhet Mvoyi Ria as members. Sara Ruto was reappointed chairperson at Kisii University, and Samson Muchelule as a member. Peter Ndemo was retained as chairperson at Turkana University, with Jared Oyier, Shadrack Kemoi, Kimutai Biwott, and Carolyne Ekwon as members. Professor David Serem was retained as chairperson at Chuka University, along with Crispus Ndeke, Linet Maganda, Samuel Gitonga, Zephania Mbaka, and Margaret Makhungu.
