Comedian Eric Omondi has unveiled Charles Kiura as the first candidate for his Youth 47 movement in the Muminji Ward by-election.
On January 14, 2026, Eric Omondi, known for his comedy and activism, announced Charles Kiura as the Youth 47 movement's inaugural political candidate. Kiura will contest the Muminji Ward seat in Mbeere North, Embu County, in the by-election set for February 26, 2026.
Omondi described the initiative as a key move to empower young Kenyans in governance. "The idea is to birth a new generation of leadership," he said. "We believe that the time has come for a new type of leadership, a new Kenya, a new dawn."
Launched on January 13, 2026, Youth 47 aims to support youth candidates across Kenya's 47 counties. Positioned as a grassroots platform rather than a traditional party, it focuses on issues like youth unemployment and better governance.
During the announcement, Omondi and Kiura campaigned in the ward, highlighting Kiura's Gen Z perspective and ideas for change. "It is time for a new kind of leadership," Omondi emphasized.
Affiliates like Frank Rawlings urged voter registration ahead of the 2027 elections, while Margaret Ndege noted the movement's role in uniting Kenyan youth.
This marks Omondi's first organized foray into electoral politics, building on his 2024 protest activities, such as mobilizing 'Mama Mboga' vendors against the finance bill.
