Experts debate challenges for sustainable mobility in Colombia

At the panel “Retos de la economía circular en la movilidad sostenible” of the Forum “Las 1000 empresas + verdes | Economía circular”, challenges in electrification and clean technologies for transport were addressed.

Jason Rincón, mobility manager at Seguros Bolívar, noted that the insurance sector must adapt to new sustainable mobility technologies. He explained that “one of the challenges is that the insurance sector is expert in data and giving probabilities to set insurance prices”.

Rincón added that more than 17 companies insure these products and that the company has more than 80,000 clients with the green product. He highlighted that nearly 15% of insured vehicles have sustainable mobility elements, compared to 1% three years ago.

María Alejandra Olano, sustainability manager at Porsche Colombia, said Colombia has a target of 600,000 electric vehicles, but hybrids and biofuels should also be considered. She stated that “we must work with the government and public policy to incentivize this transition”.

Andrés Chaves, president of Andemos, indicated that the automotive sector leads changes driven by teenagers and that “the circular economy is the greatest opportunity for Colombian society”. He mentioned the need to update the vehicle fleet amid 9,000 deaths from road accidents.
