Franco Colapinto demoted to 10th after Barcelona penalty

Alpine driver Franco Colapinto has been dropped from eighth to 10th place in the Barcelona Grand Prix after receiving a 10-second time penalty for failing to slow sufficiently under yellow flags.

The penalty was issued after the race when stewards investigated Colapinto's driving on lap 40. Fernando Alonso had stopped his Aston Martin at Turn 9 with a suspected battery issue, triggering local yellow flags that later became a virtual safety car.

Stewards determined that Colapinto slightly reduced speed but did not slow enough in the yellow flag sector. They imposed the penalty and added one point to his super licence, bringing his total to two over the past 12 months.

Colapinto had initially finished eighth behind Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly. The result now places him behind Racing Bulls drivers Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad.

Before the penalty decision, Colapinto said the team had shown strength on race day despite earlier struggles and would continue working to improve the car.
