Gasoline rises, diesel and kerosene roll back as forecasted

As predicted last week, gasoline prices have increased by P0.20 per liter for the third straight week, while diesel and kerosene see a P0.20 per liter rollback effective today.

In Manila, Philippines, oil companies including Jetti, Seaoil, Petron, and PTT Philippines implemented the anticipated adjustments: a P0.20 per liter hike in gasoline and a P0.20 per liter rollback for both diesel and kerosene. This brings year-to-date net increases to P21.30 per liter for gasoline, P21.55 for diesel, and P6.55 for kerosene.

Department of Energy assistant director Rodela Romero attributed the movements to global market dynamics, including anticipations around Ukraine-Russia peace negotiations and Iraq's resumption of production at a major oilfield. Jetti president Leo Bellas noted softening Asian price benchmarks due to rising supply expectations, potential Chinese outflows, and refinery restarts.

These changes follow last week's P1.20 per liter gasoline surge, aligning with earlier forecasts based on Mean of Platts Singapore trading amid a weakening peso.

Building on Minister Palma's recent confirmation of progress, the Colombian government will reduce regular gasoline by 300 pesos per gallon from February 1, 2026. Finance Minister Germán Ávila confirmed the move closes the Fuel Prices Stabilization Fund (FEPC) gap with international prices, easing consumer costs.

Fuel prices are moving in opposite directions today amid recent geopolitical developments that have rattled global oil markets. Diesel will increase by P0.20 per liter and kerosene by P0.10, while gasoline will decrease by P0.10, according to major oil companies.

Motorists can expect fuel prices to increase next week amid geopolitical issues that may disrupt supply. Jetti Petroleum Inc. president Leo Bellas said gasoline prices are expected to be steady or increase by P0.10 per liter, while diesel prices are likely to go up by P0.30 to P0.50 per liter. The Department of Energy said kerosene prices are also expected to rise by P0.10 per liter.

The Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit published an adjustment to the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) for fuels starting January 1, 2026, but both Finance and Energy clarified it won't result in increases for consumers. This change accounts for inflation and upholds the National Strategy to Stabilize Gasoline Prices, aiming to keep Magna below 24 pesos per liter.

Several fuel providers in Indonesia, including Pertamina, Shell, BP, and Vivo, simultaneously lowered non-subsidized BBM prices starting January 1, 2026. The adjustment follows the government formula and global oil price trends. Subsidized BBM prices remain unchanged.

Following Decree 1428 of 2025's announcement to end diesel subsidies for private, diplomatic, and official vehicles—raising prices by ~$3,000 while sparing public transport—service stations in affected regions raise operational issues amid the Colombian government's FEPC reforms.

Consumer prices, a key gauge of inflation, increased 2.1 percent on-year, slightly above the Bank of Korea's 2 percent target. The figure marks the lowest annual level since 0.5 percent in 2020.
