Diesel and kerosene prices rise; gasoline rollback today

Fuel prices are moving in opposite directions today amid recent geopolitical developments that have rattled global oil markets. Diesel will increase by P0.20 per liter and kerosene by P0.10, while gasoline will decrease by P0.10, according to major oil companies.

In Manila, Philippines, major oil companies including Jetti, Petron, Seaoil, and PTT Philippines have announced fuel price adjustments effective this week. The increases in diesel and kerosene stem from concerns over potential supply disruptions due to international tensions, particularly the United States' bombing of Venezuela over the weekend and the capture of authoritarian leader Nicolas Maduro to face trial in New York on drug charges.

Jetti president Leo Bellas stated that the suspension and paralysis of Venezuela’s oil export operations could drive global oil prices higher and sustain market volatility. Although world crude prices fell yesterday amid expectations of eased sanctions on Venezuelan crude, threatening a global supply glut, freight and premium components remain elevated.

Last week, both diesel and gasoline prices slightly declined in the Mean of Platts Singapore following a recovery in regional refinery output. Oil industry experts, however, noted persistent worries over supply disruptions from abroad. Venezuela holds the world’s largest proven oil reserves but contributes less than one percent of global output due to sanctions.

Building on Minister Palma's recent confirmation of progress, the Colombian government will reduce regular gasoline by 300 pesos per gallon from February 1, 2026. Finance Minister Germán Ávila confirmed the move closes the Fuel Prices Stabilization Fund (FEPC) gap with international prices, easing consumer costs.

As predicted last week, gasoline prices have increased by P0.20 per liter for the third straight week, while diesel and kerosene see a P0.20 per liter rollback effective today.

Motorists can expect fuel prices to increase next week amid geopolitical issues that may disrupt supply. Jetti Petroleum Inc. president Leo Bellas said gasoline prices are expected to be steady or increase by P0.10 per liter, while diesel prices are likely to go up by P0.30 to P0.50 per liter. The Department of Energy said kerosene prices are also expected to rise by P0.10 per liter.

The Nigerian Federal Government has announced that prices of petrol, diesel, and LPG will continue to decline. This statement comes amid ongoing economic adjustments in the energy sector.

Following Decree 1428 of 2025's announcement to end diesel subsidies for private, diplomatic, and official vehicles—raising prices by ~$3,000 while sparing public transport—service stations in affected regions raise operational issues amid the Colombian government's FEPC reforms.

With the price increase effective from January 1, 2026, Cali ranks as Colombia's second city with the most expensive fuel, just behind Villavicencio. In the Valle del Cauca capital, a gallon of regular gasoline costs $16,502, while ACPM reaches $11,424, sparking concern among transporters and users.

The recent US intervention in Venezuela, culminating in Nicolás Maduro's capture, has altered the regional oil landscape. President Donald Trump pledged to attract US investments to revitalize Venezuela's industry, while Colombia faces challenges in its crude production and exports. This dynamic could intensify competition in the heavy crude market.
