Government investigates ban on telephone sales

The government is launching an inquiry to tighten rules on telephone sales. Civil minister Erik Slottner (KD) leaves open the possibility of a total ban.

The government wants to strengthen protection for private individuals against intrusive sales calls from companies. An inquiry will examine requirements for prior consumer approval as well as possible bans, either total or limited to certain sectors and products.

Civil minister Erik Slottner (KD) says telephone sales are often perceived as irritating and manipulative. He highlights that older people and those with cognitive impairments are particularly vulnerable groups.

The inquiry is scheduled to be completed in January 2027. Industry organisation Kontakta has previously warned of effects on young people's jobs, but Slottner believes consumer interests weigh heavier.
