Traffic on E22 was closed late Friday evening between Kronetorp and Lund Norra to lift the first of two new green pedestrian and cycle bridges into place over the motorway in Lund. Work was delayed by darkness and cold but the bridge was in position by 22:00. Lund residents must wait until the end of June to use it.
Trafikverket shut down all traffic on E22 through Lund between Kronetorp interchange and Lund Norra late Friday evening. The motorway fell silent as the new green pedestrian and cycle bridge was lifted into place. This marks the first of two planned bridge lifts.
Near Gastelyckan, Ulf Nicklasson passed the bridge without initially noticing the closure. "To be honest, I only just noticed now that it's empty," he said. He recalled the E22's inauguration as Sweden's first motorway, or autostrada as he called it: "Back then it was just concrete."
A small group of spectators gathered at Höjebromölla to watch. Work began immediately after the shutdown but was delayed by darkness and cold. Workers continued until the bridge was in position at 22:00.
Lund residents cannot use the bridge until the end of June. The second bridge lift remains pending.
