Heatwave: high activity in funeral homes, full capacity in Paris

The heatwave in France has led to high activity in the funeral sector, with 66% occupancy of infrastructures and full capacity at Paris’s two funeral homes.

Élisabeth Charrier, general delegate of the Fédération nationale du funéraire, told Le Figaro that the heatwave triggered activity earlier than expected at the start of the period rather than at the end of the weekend. A first partial assessment by Santé publique France reports 1000 additional deaths compared to normal.

Tensions are concentrated in Paris, where the two funeral homes are full, according to Charrier. She noted that the survey of sector companies shows a 66% occupancy rate across the territory.

Charrier declined to speak of saturation and referred to “high activity.” She also mentioned lessons from the 2003 heatwave to manage the challenges posed by the heat.
