Himanta Biswa Sarma to take oath as Assam CM today

Himanta Biswa Sarma will take the oath as Assam Chief Minister for a second term on 12 May. Four legislators will be sworn in as ministers alongside him.

The NDA is forming the government in Assam for the third consecutive term. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday the names of four leaders who will take oath as ministers with him. They include Rameswar Teli, Ajanta Neog, Atul Bora and Charan Boro.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the chief guest at the oath ceremony. Sarma has been elected leader of the BJP and NDA legislature parties. The NDA secured a majority in the 126-member assembly.

Rameswar Teli won from Duliajan and previously served as a Union Minister of State. Ajanta Neog was re-elected from Golaghat for a sixth term and was the state's first woman Finance Minister. Atul Bora is president of Asom Gana Parishad while Charan Boro represents the Bodoland People’s Front.

Ranjeet Dass has been named the NDA candidate for Assembly Speaker.
