A Los Angeles jury ruled Thursday that Jason Derulo owes no songwriting credit or royalties to session musician Matthew Spatola for the 2020 hit Savage Love.
The verdict came after an 11-day trial in which Spatola claimed he helped create original guitar and bass parts during a studio session in April 2020. Derulo maintained that Spatola was hired only to play parts the singer had already composed and had created nothing new for the track, which later reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with a remix featuring BTS.
