The third umpire ruled it out, dismissing Patidar for 19. RCB captain Virat Kohli approached the fourth umpire. On ESPNCricinfo, Ian Bishop said, “To me, doubt there about ball and ground because you’re not in control of your body until you stop sliding.”
Abhinav Mukund added, “If the ball touches the ground, to me, it’s not out. You’re an extremely fit international athlete. You don’t need your hands or a ball to get up.” The incident echoed Mitchell Starc's 2023 Lord's catch, overturned by the MCC under Law 33.3 for lack of control.
