Kanlaon Volcano, under Alert Level 2, produced a moderately explosive eruption at 7:33 a.m. on July 9 that lasted three minutes. The event sent a dark gray plume two to three kilometers above the crater that drifted eastward, while pyroclastic density currents moved down the southeastern slopes.
The Office of Civil Defense-Negros Island Region reported ashfall and a sulfuric smell in San Carlos City and a sulfuric odor in Bago City. The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Emergency Operations Center remained under red alert as of July 9 afternoon.
In Cebu, multiple local government units suspended classes on July 10 for all levels in public and private schools. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said entry into the four-kilometer permanent danger zone remains prohibited.
