Lego has unveiled five additional Star Wars-themed sets compatible with its new Smart Play system at the Nuremberg Toy Fair. These sets, priced from $40 to $100, enhance interactive play with sounds and lights but require a separate Smart Brick for full functionality. Preorders began on January 27, with a release date of March 1.
Lego continues to expand its Smart Play platform, which integrates physical building with digital interactions like motion-activated sounds and lights. First revealed at CES, the system relies on sensor-studded Smart Bricks that charge wirelessly and activate features when in proximity to compatible elements.
At the Nuremberg Toy Fair in Germany, Lego announced five new Star Wars sets designed to work with Smart Play: the Millennium Falcon ($100, 885 pieces, including Smart minifigures of Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker, C-3PO, and Han Solo, plus four Smart tags for laser effects and movie sound effects); Mos Eisley Cantina ($80, 666 pieces, with Smart minifigures of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Greedo, three Smart tags for music and droid ejection); Yoda's Hut and Jedi Training ($70, 440 pieces, featuring Smart Luke Skywalker and Yoda for interactive lights and sounds on Dagobah); AT-ST Attack on Endor ($50, 347 pieces, with Smart figurine Wicket and two Smart tags for battle recreations); and Luke's Landspeeder ($40, 215 pieces, including mini Luke Skywalker, Jawa, and Gonk Droid for repair simulations).
These sets join three earlier ones that include the Smart Brick and charger: Darth Vader's TIE Fighter ($70), Luke's Red Five X-Wing ($90), and Throne Room Duel and A-Wing ($160). The new sets incorporate Smart Tags and Minifigures but lack the core Smart Brick, which users must purchase separately or from the initial sets to enable full interactivity, such as flying sounds for ships or lightsaber duels.
Preorders for all eight sets opened on January 27, ahead of the March 1 launch. Lego plans further expansions with updates and new releases, blending traditional bricks with modern technology for immersive Star Wars experiences.
