LPA outside PAR has medium chance of becoming tropical depression

A low pressure area outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression, the state weather bureau said on Monday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported the system was located 1,515 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao as of 3 a.m. on Monday. It remains far from the Philippine landmass.

The LPA's trough continues to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to Mindanao and Palawan, including the Kalayaan Islands. The whole Visayas and Occidental Mindoro are expected to see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas are forecast for these areas. In Cebu, temperatures may range from 26 to 33 degrees Celsius, with a heat index reaching 40 degrees Celsius under the extreme caution category.

The Philippine weather bureau on Tuesday said it is tracking two low-pressure areas that are not expected to develop into tropical cyclones or bring direct effects to the country.

The low-pressure area inside the Philippine area of responsibility will not directly affect the landmass and is unlikely to redevelop into a tropical cyclone, the state weather bureau said on Saturday.

The low pressure area formerly known as Tropical Cyclone Caloy is forecast to weaken and dissipate over the Philippine Sea by Friday or Saturday without affecting the country.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) projects “danger” level heat index of 42 degrees Celsius in four areas. These include Catarman in Northern Samar, Zamboanga City, Cotabato City, and Dumangas in Iloilo, based on yesterday's forecast. Officials urge the public to limit sun exposure and stay hydrated.

PAGASA reported several areas reached borderline “extreme caution” heat index after a cold snap due to weakening northeast monsoon. The index ranges from 33 to 41 degrees Celsius, potentially causing heat cramps and exhaustion. Cotabato City and Zamboanga City neared 40 degrees Celsius.
