Malatsi allocates R234 million to SABC

Minister Solly Malatsi has allocated R234 million to the SABC as part of his department's R2.5 billion budget for the 2026/2027 financial year.

Malatsi delivered the allocation details while presenting his department’s expenditure in Parliament on 12 May 2026. He noted that R1.7 billion of the total budget would be transferred to portfolio entities, including R505 million for ICASA, R112 million for the Film and Publication Board, and R595 million for the South African Post Office.

The minister praised the SABC for securing unqualified audit opinions for the second year in a row. He stated that this progress supports ongoing work on a new funding model developed in consultation with National Treasury.

Malatsi highlighted the budgetary constraints facing the portfolio. He said these limits affect the ability of entities to meet their mandates while balancing commercial operations and public broadcasting responsibilities.
