Marcos urges Filipinos to protect truth from distortion

President Marcos called on Filipinos to protect the truth and restore trust during the 128th Independence Day commemoration in Manila.

President Marcos led flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies at the Rizal Monument yesterday. He delivered remarks at the nearby Quirino Grandstand, stating that Filipinos must protect truth from distortion, harness technology wisely and restore trust amid division and distrust.

The President noted that the occasion should deepen understanding of the past and inspire duty to the country. He highlighted challenges including corruption, inequality, poverty and climate change, adding that true leaders sacrifice their own interests for the people.

Acting Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian joined calls for unity and settling political differences. Speaker Faustino Dy III said freedom must go hand in hand with progress felt in every home and community.

Marcos was accompanied by First Lady Liza Marcos and their three sons. Other attendees included Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and military and police chiefs.
