Marta Kostyuk withdraws from Wimbledon doubles match

Marta Kostyuk and Elena-Gabriela Ruse pulled out of their Wimbledon doubles match hours before it was due to start on July 6. The withdrawal handed a walkover to ninth seeds Ellen Perez and Demi Schuurs.

The Ukrainian player had earlier defeated American Ashlyn Krueger 6-4, 6-4 in the singles. She was scheduled to return to Court 2 later that afternoon for the doubles quarterfinal.

Tournament officials announced the withdrawal at around 3 pm local time. No reason was given for why Kostyuk and Ruse could not compete.

Kostyuk's singles campaign remains active. She is set to face Jasmine Paolini in the quarterfinals.
