MCD directs closure of unlicensed meat shops along Kanwar routes

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has ordered the shutdown of unauthorised meat shops along pilgrimage routes ahead of the Kanwar Yatra starting July 30.

Following a July 27 meeting chaired by Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra, the MCD issued a memorandum directing the closure of all unlicensed meat shops and those violating licence terms near Kanwar camps. The civic body must also clear encroachments, maintain round-the-clock sanitation in three shifts, conduct fumigation, and station mobile dispensaries at larger camps.

Kanwar camps will operate at 308 sites across Delhi from July 30 to August 11. All zonal deputy commissioners are to coordinate with district magistrates for implementation.

Police have deployed about 1,600 personnel along routes and at camps, with additional forces requested. Deputy Commissioner of Police Rahool Alwal said quick response vehicles and ambulances will operate without jurisdictional limits, and meetings were held with officers from neighbouring states to monitor yatris.
