Mexico lawmakers prepare antitrust complaint against Sony

Representatives in Mexico are preparing to file a formal complaint against Sony with the country's National Antitrust Commission. The move targets Sony's plan to end PlayStation disc manufacturing by January 2028.

Federal Representative Iraís Reyes and Senator Luis Donaldo Colosio, acting as private citizens, intend to request an investigation into the decision. They argue it would force consumers to buy games exclusively through Sony's store and eliminate competition from retailers.

The lawmakers cited potential harm to businesses and the second-hand market as well as risks for players without reliable internet access. They also referenced Sony's earlier removal of over 500 movies and TV shows from accounts without refunds.

Sony has not issued any public statements on the matter. A petition opposing the disc manufacturing end has gathered nearly 310,000 signatures.
