Mexico leads tourist flows to United States in 2026

Mexico remains the top source market for tourists to the United States, according to projections shared at a conference during IPW 2026 in Fort Lauderdale.

During the Brand USA session at IPW 2026, the organization projected that Mexico will send 18.5 million visitors to the United States this year. This represents 3 percent annual growth and solidifies its lead over Canada since 2025.

Geographic proximity, air and land connectivity, and commercial ties drive the trend. Brand USA highlighted Mexican travelers’ spending on shopping, entertainment and lodging.

The United States overall expects 70.6 million international visitors in 2026, up 3 percent after a moderate slowdown in 2025. Challenges such as security perceptions and travel costs remain.

Mexican authorities are deploying extensive security measures to reassure visitors for the co-hosted tournament.

Mexico recorded a historic inflow of 40,871 million dollars in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) during 2025, a 10.8 percent increase from the previous year. The Secretariat of Economy noted that this flow positions the country as a strategic destination for global productive capital, despite a 2 percent decline in developing economies.
