Mike Mattison announces third solo blues album

Mike Mattison, a key member of the Tedeschi Trucks Band, has revealed details of his upcoming third solo album, Turn a Midnight Corner, set for release on January 16, 2026. The project draws from a novella he wrote about a fictional 1930s blues duo. It features his band Trash Magic and explores themes of friendship and love.

Mike Mattison, who has long contributed vocals and songwriting to the Tedeschi Trucks Band and the earlier Derek Trucks Band, is preparing to launch his third solo effort. Titled Turn a Midnight Corner, the album will arrive via Landslide Records and centers on a conceptual blues narrative. This idea stemmed from a novella Mattison penned, chronicling the story of an imagined 1930s country blues pair known as Ted ‘n’ Turk, whose work gains renewed attention in the 1970s.

The recording took place live at Studio MG in Roswell, Georgia, with co-production handled by Mattison and Jason Kingsland. The goal was to achieve a raw, "shambolic" authenticity typical of classic blues sessions. Supporting Mattison on the album is his group Trash Magic, comprising guitarists Dave Yoke and Greg Spradlin, bassist Wesley Flowers, and drummer Tyler Greenwell.

A two-time Grammy recipient and the writer behind the Tedeschi Trucks Band's hit "Midnight in Harlem," Mattison views the album as a deep dive into human connections. He has described it as an examination of "friendship, fidelity, and the shifting meanings of love over time."

To promote the release, Mattison has scheduled a winter tour across the Southeast and Northeast, weaving in dates around his Tedeschi Trucks Band obligations. The itinerary kicks off on January 8, 2026, in Athens, Georgia, at Hotel Indigo with opener Randall Bramblett, and includes stops in Charleston, Atlanta (on release day), Asheville, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Tulsa, Nashville, Boca Raton, Jacksonville, Bridgeport, Pembroke, Brooklyn, and Woodstock. Highlights include the album launch show at The Garden Club in Atlanta and a performance at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa during Horton Fest.
