Education Minister María Paz Arzola presented on Wednesday the bill that modifies the School Admission System (SAE) and introduces Mutual Choice and Random Assignment mechanisms.
Arzola stated that the initiative seeks to reduce the weight of chance in the allocation of places. She highlighted that 80% of those applying to establishments without enough spots and without priority criteria are assigned by chance.
The bill establishes that any changes would come into effect for the admission process that starts next year for the 2028 school year. The minister expressed that the Executive expects good reception in the parliamentary debate.
Deputies such as Zandra Parisi and Emilia Schneider questioned the project. Parisi warned of discrimination risks from interviews with parents and guardians, while Schneider recalled the 2025 Technical Table recommendations that Arzola participated in.
Daniela Serrano alerted about possible unconstitutionalities in article 7 Ter. The term "tómbola" to refer to the SAE was also debated in the session.
