Nasa shares psyche spacecraft photos from mars flyby

Nasa has released images captured by the Psyche spacecraft during its recent flyby of Mars. The photos were taken as the probe used the planet's gravity to adjust its trajectory toward the asteroid 16 Psyche.

The spacecraft passed within 2,800 miles of the Martian surface. One image shows the 290-mile-wide Huygens double-ring crater, with colors enhanced to highlight differences in dust, sand and bedrock. Another captures the bright water ice fields at the south pole, while a third depicts a crescent Mars reflecting sunlight through its atmosphere as the probe approached from afar.

Astronauts aboard NASA's Artemis II mission captured striking images of the Moon and Earth using iPhone 17 Pro Max smartphones during their recent lunar flyby. The crew, including Commander Reid Wiseman and Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen, also employed Nikon cameras for high-resolution shots now being released by NASA. The mission, which launched on April 1, reached a record distance from Earth and is set to splash down off California this week.

NASA’s Psyche spacecraft flew past Mars on May 15, capturing detailed images of the planet’s surface. The close encounter provided a gravity boost to speed the mission toward its main target.

NASA's Psyche spacecraft is scheduled to pass within 2,800 miles of Mars on May 15 to gain a gravitational boost toward its target asteroid. The maneuver will increase the probe's speed while allowing tests of its scientific instruments.

South African National Space Agency engineers at Hartebeesthoek Ground Station tracked NASA's Orion spacecraft during its record-breaking lunar flyby, ensuring communication during key phases. The Artemis II crew achieved a maximum distance from Earth of 406,771km, surpassing previous human spaceflight records. Sansa provided telemetry and ranging data as part of global collaboration.

NASA's Curiosity rover faced an unexpected challenge during a recent sampling attempt on the Martian surface.

NASA's Artemis II mission lifted off successfully on April 1, 2026, from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, sending astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen aboard the Orion spacecraft for the first crewed Moon flyby since Apollo 17. Powered by the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, the 10-day test flight will validate critical systems for future lunar landings and Mars missions, looping around the Moon's far side.

NASA's Artemis II crew, aboard the Orion spacecraft named Integrity, has successfully departed Earth's orbit and is heading toward the Moon after a key engine burn. The astronauts reported no major issues, shared stunning photos of Earth, and spoke with family and media. The mission remains on track for a closest approach to the Moon on Monday and splashdown on April 10.
