NBA president-elect pledges to resign if rigging proven

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, president-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association, said she will step down if evidence emerges that the 2026 election was manipulated. Speaking on TVC News, she rejected claims of irregularities in the electronic voting process.

Badejo-Okusanya described the vote as the most scrutinized in the association's history under universal suffrage and electronic voting. She noted that her lead remained consistent with votes arriving steadily and no sudden surges that might suggest manipulation.

The senior advocate addressed comparisons to former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. She stated she would resign immediately if the process that brought her to power was found flawed.

Badejo-Okusanya also denied receiving any endorsement from outgoing NBA President Afam Osigwe. She rejected suggestions that family ties to the federal government would affect her independence, saying her duty is to NBA members under the association's constitution.

Her priorities include making the NBA more relevant to lawyers professionally and strengthening its role in upholding the rule of law.
