Nintendo will discontinue sales of the original Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED Model in Europe starting mid-February 2027. The move follows new European Union regulations requiring user-replaceable batteries in portable electronics. Compliant versions of Switch 2 products will begin rolling out later this year.
The company announced the changes on its official website. Older Switch hardware and several accessories will no longer be sold to retailers or through the Nintendo Store after mid-February 2027.
Revisions to Switch 2 products with replaceable batteries will start this summer. Joy-Con revisions arrive first, followed by the Switch 2 console in autumn, the Pro Controller in winter and additional controllers in early 2027.
Nintendo said the revised products will have no functional differences from current models. Battery capacity and weight changes vary by item, with the Pro Controller seeing the largest battery reduction at 16 percent.
The original Switch launched in March 2017. Its European discontinuation comes almost ten years later as the company prepares for updated hardware under the new battery rules.
