Noida International Airport prepares for first flights with gleaming interiors

Twelve days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it, the Noida International Airport terminal gleams with locally sourced red granite floors, ready for passengers. Officials say 80% of construction is complete, with domestic flights possible within 45 days once the Airport Security Program finishes. IndiGo, Air India Express, and Akasa have expressed interest in operations.

The Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar, Greater Noida, spans 1,334 hectares and will develop in four phases, with Phase 1 capacity for 12 million passengers annually. A 3,900-metre runway stands ready for flights, officials confirmed.

A site supervisor told media during a Thursday afternoon visit, "The building of the airport is 80% completed. Only a few things such as electrical fittings, CCTV security cameras, and a fully functional gas supply remain to be completed. They will be done very soon."

An official from Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) stated, "We are waiting for the completion of the Airport Security Program (ASP), and once this is done, we’ll be able to operate, starting with domestic flights within 45 days." IndiGo, Air India Express, and Akasa have shown interest, with DGCA to allocate slots; international and cargo flights are expected by year-end. Located 40 km from Pari Chowk, it will serve Delhi-NCR and western Uttar Pradesh, making Delhi the second city with two major airports like Mumbai.

Terminal 1 covers 137,985 sq m, featuring 48 check-in counters, 20 baggage drop stations, nine security lanes, and ten domestic gates with aerobridges. The Digiyatra app enables seamless travel from entrance to boarding gate. Environmentally conscious design includes natural light, bamboo seating, EV charging stations, and an all-electric airside vehicle fleet.

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has begun allotting land near Noida International Airport to electronics firms for an electronics manufacturing cluster. Officials said plots in Sector 10 went to companies including Havells India, Ascent K Circuit, and Polynomous Industries.

Ugnayan ng mga Lumalaban sa Airport Privatization (ULAP) has asked the Supreme Court to immediately halt the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) concession deal and fee increases amid global oil shocks from Middle East tensions. The group filed a second reiterative motion electronically on March 24. It argues the changes impose an unjustified economic burden on Filipinos.
