A massive fire broke out at the six-story Terra Drone building, a commercial shophouse on Jalan Letjen Suprapto in Cempaka Baru, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday afternoon, December 9, 2025. The blaze quickly engulfed the ground floor, trapping 76 employees inside. Of those, 54 survived, while 22 perished, including 15 women and 7 men. The victims' bodies were intact without serious burns, and the suspected cause of death was carbon dioxide (CO2) inhalation, based on external examination without autopsy.
DKI Jakarta's Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat) rescued 19 people who reached the upper floors, though most victims were found on the third and fifth floors, exhausted from trying to access the emergency exit on the top level. The National Police's Forensic Lab team discovered the building had only one main access point, worsening the evacuation. "If you look, indeed from noon or afternoon, the access was only one," said Commissioner General Romylus Tamtelahitu.
Police are investigating potential negligence or criminal elements. By Wednesday, December 10, 2025, eight witnesses had been questioned, including employees, management, HRD staff, and locals. The building and company owners are scheduled for examination soon. "The number of witnesses examined is eight," said Deputy Commissioner General Roby Heri Saputra. Three victims have been identified: Rufaidha Lathiifunnisa (22 years old), Novia Nurwana (28 years old), and Yoga Valdier Yaseer (28 years old).
DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung criticized the inadequate evacuation preparations in the densely operational building of Terra Drone, a drone services provider for industries.
