President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. arrived in Vancouver, Canada, on July 1 for an official visit scheduled from July 1 to 4. The aircraft carrying the President, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and the Philippine delegation landed at 4:46 p.m. local time.

Marcos said he will hold a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney followed by expanded talks with both delegations. He added that the discussions aim to outline a Plan of Action to elevate relations, which the Secretary of Foreign Affairs will develop with her counterpart.

Diplomatic ties between the Philippines and Canada date back to 1949. Marcos noted Canada’s consistent support for the Philippines on sovereignty issues in the West Philippine Sea and shared commitment to a rules-based order under UNCLOS and the 2016 Arbitral Award.

Marcos is also scheduled to meet members of the Filipino community in Canada, where about 1 million Filipinos live and work.
