Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies said the team failed to put the RB22 in the right operating window during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. Max Verstappen finished second but expressed surprise at the result after struggling with balance and damage.
Laurent Mekies stated after the race that Red Bull did not give its drivers a car they could push. He noted the RB22 performed worse on Friday and Saturday than on Sunday but still left drivers without a good feeling.
Verstappen described his podium finish by saying he was shocked and wondered how he ended up there. He highlighted ongoing issues with oversteer and car balance that had also appeared in practice.
Mekies said only Lando Norris was clearly faster than Verstappen on pace. He added that the team must determine why the car sits on the edge of its performance window before the next race at Zandvoort.
Red Bull sits fourth in the constructors' championship, more than 200 points behind Mercedes. Mekies praised McLaren's upgrades but stressed the need for greater consistency from the current package.
