Shirika la Msalaba Mwekundu na MOJA hutoa ushauri wa usalama wakati wa mvua nzito

Shirika la Msalaba Mwekundu la Kenya na Kampuni ya MOJA Expressway wametoa miongozo ya usalama wakati mvua nzito inatarajiwa kuenea nchini kuanzia Februari 21 hadi 25. Miongozo hii inalenga kuzuia majanga yanayohusiana na mafuriko na ajali za barabarani wakati wa mvua. Idara ya Hali ya Hewa ya Kenya imetoa onyo la mvua ya wastani hadi nzito na uwezekano wa 33 hadi 66 foonda.

Shirika la Msalaba Mwekundu la Kenya limetoa miongozo ya dharura ya usalama dhidi ya mafuriko yanayotokana na mvua nzito inayotarajiwa kuanzia Ijumaa hadi Jumanne, Februari 25. Miongoni mwa vidokezo muhimu, wameonya kuwa inchi sita za maji yanayosonga yanaweza kumwangusha mtu chini, na inchi moja ya maji inaweza kufagia gari kabisa. Wanashauri wakazi kutoroka mara moja hadi maeneo ya juu, kuzima umeme kwenye swichi kuu ikiwa nyumba zimefurika, na kuepuka mistari ya umeme iliyoshuka na maji yenye matope.

Wakazi wasiendane na madaraja yaliyofurika, wasiweke magari au kufanya shughuli karibu na mito na hudhurungi wakati wa mvua, na kutumia fimbo kupima kina cha maji kabla ya kuvuka maeneo yaliyofurika. Shirika linawahimiza umma kusikiliza redio na televisheni kwa sasisho za kila mara kuhusu mifumo ya mvua na maeneo yanayofurika.

Kwa upande wake, Kampuni ya MOJA Expressway imetoa onyo kwa madereva kwenye barabara kuu ya Nairobi kufuata mvua nzito inayoendelea. Wanasisitiza kuwa kina cha matairi ya gari kiwe cha kutosha na matairi yafufwe vizuri ili kuboresha mshiko kwenye nyuso zenye unyevunyevu. Madereva wasonge polepole ili kupata wakati zaidi wa kuguswa na maji yanayorusha ghafla, breki, au vizuizi visivyotarajiwa. Aidha, waongeze umbali wa kufuata ili kuepuka mgongano wa nyuma, na wakae na mwanga kwa kutumia taa za mbele na vibayu wa kazi nzuri.

"Hapa kuna vidokezo vya usalama wakati wa msimu wa mvua. Hakikisha kina cha matairi ni cha kutosha na matairi yafufwe vizuri, songe polepole ili kujipa wakati zaidi wa kuguswa na maji yanayorusha ghafla na breki, ongeza umbali wa kufuata na ubaki na mwanga," inasema taarifa ya kampuni.

Mavuno haya yanatokea wakati msimu mrefu wa mvua unaanza kutoka mwisho wa Februari hadi Mei na kushuka Juni kila mwaka. Kaunti zinazowekwa kwenye orodha ya uangalizi ni pamoja na Nairobi, Mombasa, Migori, Kakamega, na nyingine nyingi. Hali ya hewa inatarajiwa kuzorota kwa siku zijazo, na mvua zaidi ya 20mm katika saa 24 Februari 21, na zaidi ya 30mm kuanzia Februari 22 hadi 24. Wakazi katika maeneo yasiyo na mvua moja kwa moja pia wawe makini, kwani maji kutoka eneo la juu yanaweza kusonga haraka na kusababisha mafuriko.

Kenyans wanaohitaji msaada wa dharura wanaweza kupiga nambari 1199 ya Shirika la Msalaba Mwekundu, ambayo inafanya kazi kila wakati.
