Daria Egorova threw her racket off the court during the first set at 4-3 while serving on deuce. The racket hit a tournament referee standing outside the perimeter. The chair umpire chose not to disqualify the 19-year-old under the unsportsmanlike conduct rule, and play continued.
Egorova defeated second seed Martina Capurro Taborda 6-4 6-4. After the match, the Argentine player kicked the umpire's chair and yelled before storming off. She later posted on social media that the incident should have resulted in a direct disqualification.
Capurro rejected the supervisor's explanation that there was no intent and no major harm. She stated she will send a formal complaint to the ITF and pursue the matter further. Egorova advanced to the semifinals against Lucciana Perez.
