Sergio Perez has described the psychological pressures he faced while racing alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull. The Mexican driver sought professional help after the team linked his on-track difficulties to mental issues.
Perez spoke about his experiences on the High Performance podcast. He explained that the environment at the team was built around Verstappen and that he accepted his supporting role.
"I felt there was not much we could do with the system," Perez said. He added that he was largely on his own in terms of management support during his time at the Milton Keynes outfit from 2021 to the end of 2024.
Perez revealed he consulted a psychologist at the team's suggestion. He said the move was intended to demonstrate the right attitude toward overcoming any perceived issues.
The driver returned to the Formula 1 grid with Cadillac in 2026 after spending a year away from the championship.
