SETI search finds no alien signals from interstellar object

Scientists with the SETI Institute have completed a radio search of the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS but detected no signs of extraterrestrial technology. The observations, conducted with the Allen Telescope Array, confirmed the object's natural origin.

The object, first identified in July 2025, is only the third confirmed interstellar visitor to enter the Solar System. Researchers examined it for more than seven hours across frequencies from 1 to 9 gigahertz.

Nearly 74 million narrowband signals were recorded during the search. All were traced to human-made sources or satellites after analysis.

The study ruled out any transmissions stronger than 10 to 110 watts from the object. Observations began less than 24 hours after its discovery was announced.

"It is important that we understand the natural distribution of interstellar objects so that we will be able to identify any anomalies," said lead author Dr. Sofia Sheikh.

A comet from beyond our solar system shows dramatically higher levels of deuterium-rich water than any object seen locally. The findings suggest it formed under much colder conditions than those in our own planetary neighborhood. Researchers used observations from two major telescopes to make the measurements.

Astronomers have identified a rare stellar pair as the origin of long-period radio transients, mysterious repeating signals detected in the Milky Way. The system features a white dwarf drawing material from a red dwarf companion.

Astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope have detected clear differences between the morning and evening sides of the ultra-hot exoplanet WASP-121 b. The observations show that the evening terminator is hotter and more expanded than the morning side.

Astronomers have traced a high-energy neutrino to a distant galaxy powered by intense star formation rather than a supermassive black hole. The finding challenges previous assumptions about the origins of cosmic neutrinos.
