Super Typhoon Francisco slowed to 10 kph while located 410 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan, on Tuesday with winds of 185 kph. PAGASA maintained Signal No. 1 over parts of Northern Luzon as the system stayed offshore.
Super Typhoon Francisco was estimated at 410 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan, on Tuesday morning. It carried maximum sustained winds of 185 kph and gusts of up to 230 kph while moving west-northwest at 10 kph.
PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said the typhoon is expected to slow further until Wednesday morning along a north-northwest track before curving away. The system may maintain strength through Tuesday afternoon then gradually weaken.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remained in effect over Batanes, the northeastern portion of Cagayan including Santa Ana and Gonzaga, and the eastern portion of the Babuyan Islands. Francisco is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday, June 26.
The typhoon continued to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing scattered rains and thunderstorms to several regions including the Visayas and Mindanao. PAGASA also monitored a tropical depression 2,680 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon that is not expected to affect the country.
