Supreme Court denies bail to man accused of cyberfraud

The Supreme Court on June 17 refused bail to Manoj Kumar Singh, who faces multiple cyber fraud cases. Chief Justice Surya Kant described such offenders as parasites preying on citizens.

A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice V. Mohana heard the plea from Singh, who is accused in cases registered in Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Jammu and Kashmir. The court declined interim relief and directed him to approach the jurisdictional High Court.

Chief Justice Kant stated during the hearing: “You people are parasites....You people, take money from investors and dupe them. We have to be very harsh on you. Society’s interest is there only when you are inside jail and not outside.” The bench noted that accused often commit offences in one state and move to another.

The court had taken suo motu cognisance of digital arrest scams in October 2025 after a woman in Ambala reported losing nearly ₹1.5 crore to impersonators of CBI and ED officials. Several states later referred major cases to the CBI.
