The CJEU will issue ruling on amnesty law on July 16

The Court of Justice of the European Union will resolve on July 16 the preliminary questions on the amnesty law raised by the Court of Auditors and the National Court.

The CJEU press service reported on June 12, 2026 that the Grand Chamber of the Luxembourg-based court will deliver its ruling that day. The decision will address the application of the amnesty to accounting liability for the 1-O expenses and to the alleged terrorism offenses in the CDR case.

Advocate General Dean Spielmann issued a non-binding opinion on November 13, 2025. In it he endorsed the compatibility of the rule with EU law, although he raised procedural objections.

The amnesty law entered into force on June 11, 2024. Dozens of independence leaders, including Carles Puigdemont, await the European court ruling, which will also influence the Constitutional Court.
