The xx performed at Coachella on April 10, marking their first show at the festival in nine years and first festival appearance in eight. The trio played a sunset set ahead of headliner Sabrina Carpenter, drawing tracks from their albums and solo careers. The band described the moment as special in a post-show Instagram message.
The xx took the Coachella Stage on Friday night, April 10, delivering a set that blended songs from their three studio albums with selections from members' solo projects. Tracks included 'Crystalised', 'Say Something Loving', 'Islands', 'Angels', 'Fiction', 'I’ll Take Care Of You', 'Shelter', 'VCR', 'On Hold', 'I Dare You' and 'Intro', alongside 'Enjoy Your Life', 'Wanna', 'Treat Each Other Right' and 'GMT' from solo work. Social media footage captured the performance, with fans praising its impact, one calling it 'so cool it gave me chills' and another noting it induced goosebumps. The band had recently resumed live shows, starting with a gig at Mexico City’s Pepsi Center WTC on April 3. After the Coachella set, they posted on Instagram: “Coachella, night one – we couldn’t have imagined a return like this. Our first festival show in eight years, and to share it with you at sunset felt special. Thank you so much! See you next weekend.” Their last album, 'I See You', arrived in 2017, followed by solo efforts: Romy Madley Croft's 'Mid Air' in 2023, Oliver Sim's 'Hideous Bastard' the year prior, and Jamie xx's 'In Waves' in 2024, which featured the bandmates on 'Waited All Night'. Romy told NME at the 2024 BRIT Awards about new material: “We’re just keeping it really open, and we’re up for trying new things, but it sounds like us. That’s all I can say right now.”
