US health secretary says cyclosporiasis outbreak is under control

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stated that the cyclosporiasis outbreak in the United States, with 1,645 confirmed cases, is under control after tracing its origin to Mexican lettuce.

US Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stated on Tuesday that the cyclosporiasis outbreak affecting more than 1,600 people is under control. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) initially identified a positive test in iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms sourced in Mexico but later retracted it as a false positive.

The FDA maintains the recall of 35 Taylor Farms products distributed in 27 states between June 29 and July 16. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report 1,645 confirmed cases since May 1 across 34 states, along with 5,100 suspected cases and 141 hospitalizations.

In Mexico, Health Secretary David Kershenobich confirmed three routine cases with no outbreak risk. Mexican authorities investigated in Guanajuato and found no evidence that the contamination originated there.
