The FDA is investigating a fresh cluster of 72 Cyclospora cases from an unknown source, bringing the total lab-confirmed infections tied to the Taylor Farms Mexican lettuce outbreak above 4,100 across 41 states.
The US Food and Drug Administration announced it is investigating another Cyclospora outbreak causing diarrhea, with 72 cases linked to an unknown source. These add to rising infections concentrated in the Midwest, tied to Taylor Farms lettuce, which withdrew products from the market.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed over 4,100 cases linked to the current outbreak, with more than 2,500 new infections in the past week. Since May 1, 11,500 possible cases were reported, including 4,173 lab-confirmed in 41 states, linked to consumption of contaminated lettuce from Mexico.
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stated the outbreak is under control and the origin was identified, leading to product withdrawals. The FDA retracted a positive Cyclospora detection in an iceberg lettuce sample from Taylor Farms Mexico and maintains the recall of 35 products distributed in 27 states between June 29 and July 16.
Sweetgreen shares fell more than 13 percent, Chipotle more than 4 percent, and Yum! Brands up to 1.4 percent.
