US market drag weighs on Dr Reddy's and Cipla profits

Indian pharmaceutical companies Dr Reddy's and Cipla reported weaker results for the June quarter due to falling profits in the US market. Their domestic operations performed better and provided some offset. Analysts lowered earnings estimates for future years as a result.

The firms experienced significant drops in net profits and operating margins amid declining US business contributions. Domestic sales remained a bright spot and supported overall performance during the period.

Obesity therapies and new specialty product launches are expected to support growth ahead. These initiatives form part of efforts to strengthen pipelines despite current pressures.

Analysts responded by reducing earnings forecasts for the upcoming fiscal years. The adjustments reflect ongoing challenges in the North American segment for both companies.

Dr Reddy's Laboratories expects a gradual recovery in the current fiscal year after a profit decline last year. Growth in India, Europe, and emerging markets is offsetting pressures in the US business. New product launches and margin improvements are set to support expansion.

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries posted robust revenue and profit increases for the March quarter. The company noted pressure on EBITDA margins due to higher investments and reduced milestone income. Outlook for the next fiscal year points to steady but moderated expansion.

Global fund managers are reconsidering exits from Indian stocks as falling oil prices and rupee stabilization reduce key concerns. Daily foreign selling has slowed while inflows into India-focused ETFs have turned positive. Analysts note that attractive valuations could support a market rerating if earnings growth holds.
