Wike accuses Fubara of violating Tinubu-brokered peace deal

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has accused Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara of reneging on a peace agreement brokered by President Bola Tinubu. Wike stated that the details of the deal would soon be disclosed to the people of Rivers State. He made these remarks during a visit to Tai Local Government Area.

The political tension in Rivers State escalated as Nyesom Wike accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of failing to honor a peace accord mediated by President Bola Tinubu in June. This agreement aimed to end the ongoing crisis and stabilize the state. Wike, speaking during a thank-you visit to Tai Local Government Area on December 31, 2025, vowed to reveal the accord's details soon.

"Very soon, we will let the people of Rivers State know what we agreed on before Mr President," Wike said, without naming Fubara directly but clearly referencing the governor's alleged breach.

Wike urged residents of Tai to avoid those who break promises in politics, emphasizing trust. He affirmed that Rivers State is ready for the 2027 elections, where the people's will, not money, will prevail. The visit was to express gratitude for local support during the 2023 elections, which Wike described as a tough battle that brought benefits like a federal university in Tai.

Senator Barry Mpigi (APC, Rivers South-East) praised Tinubu and Wike for developments in the district. "I want to assure you, on behalf of the people of Rivers South-East, that we will continue to stand with you," Mpigi said.

Assembly member Bernard Nbar and Tai LGA Chairman Mbakpone Okpe echoed loyalty, citing appointments, infrastructure, and empowerment as gains from backing Tinubu. Okpe added, "We are eager to return Mr President for a second term. We will mobilise all our votes for Tinubu and whoever you support."

This development underscores lingering divisions despite the peace efforts, with Wike signaling no retreat on future political plans.
